Fashion Week for Less

Fashion Week 2014

Runway photos from

One of the most fun nights I’ve ever had was three years ago when I had the opportunity to attend a show at New York Fashion Week.  Hopefully, I’ll get to make the trip again, but for now, I’ll be content scrolling through the slideshows on  One of my current favorite shows is the Karen Walker Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear.  Inspired by suffragettes, Walker showed looks that are definitely feminine but that also convey a somewhat hard, “Don’t mess with me” air.  Here are some pieces I’m thinking about wearing until a time when I can afford my own Karen Walker.

Best place in the world to buy jeans?  Madewell.  I know this is not news to anyone.  Not only are they well-made (made well?  Heh.  Nevermind.)  But Madewell offers free hemming at all of its stores.  This wax-coated pair is on of my favorites.  They’re perfect for strolling around downtown Detroit on a Sunday afternoon.

What I’m Wearing: Jeans – Madewell, TopMadewell, Leather Jacket – Ben Sherman, Sunglasses – Ray Ban, WatchNixon, Necklace – Madewell, ShoesMadewell
